Viana do Castelo’s campaign
This campaign also took place in June 2024 and focused on the simulacrum of St Severino, located in the side chapel (on the Epistle side) of the Santuário de Nossa Senhora d’Agonia in Viana do Castelo.
Little is still known about this artefact. However, it is documented that on September 10, 1783, Pedro Paulo de Barros Pereira (judge and provost of Archbishop D. Gaspar), authenticated the wooden box containing the holy body and the blood vessel that accompanied it. Thus, it is assumed that the simulacrum arrived at the sanctuary in the same year. The current whereabouts of the blood vessel, however, remain unknown.
The pilgrimage of Nossa Senhora d’Agonia takes place every year in August; among other ceremonies, the mass of St Severino is celebrated.
Soon we will update the information about St Severino. In the meanwhile, you can explore the Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Agonia and St Severino by clicking in the 360º image below.
